Localizing a .NET application
When localizing a .NET application the translation quality, turnaround time and the localization costs have always been a challenge.
Having solid experience in software localization we designed Crowdin and claim it as the most powerful solution currently available.
The section below provides some basic recommendations on how to prepare better and localize your application taking most advantage when localizing your application with Crowdin.
When developing your application and writing texts, try to think about how that text might be translated, always keep in mind that your texts in many languages will be much longer than they appear in English. Acording to latest research Russian texts are 35% longer than the same ones in English. At the same time Chinese texts are usually 30% shorter.
In case your application was not developed with intention to be localized we provide a short check-list for you:
- User interface elements including buttons, menus, windows etc. must be modified to accept translated text.
- Dynamic strings generated by your application in runtime must be formatted using the current locale information.
- Static strings must be translated.
- Pictures, icons and other graphics must be changed to be culturally appropriate.
- Text handling code must calculate word breaks using the current locale information.
You can find more information on how to prepare your application on "ASP.NET MVC Localization complete guide" or just contact us to get assistance. You could also try to pseudo-localize your application to see potential problems in localization.
